In January, FDA approved Crofelemer delayed-release tablets to relieve symptoms of diarrhea in patients with HIV/AIDS who are taking antiretroviral therapy. This new therapy is indicated for patients whose diarrhea is not caused by an from a virus, bacteria, or parasite. Crofelemer is derived from the red sap of the Croton Lechleri plant, making it the second botanical prescription drug approved by FDA.
